Founding

The Mikoshi’s Rest was founded approximately 27 years ago by a pregnant Doman courtesan who immigrated to Shirogane after the current political atmosphere in Doma became tense around her work. Having saved enough money to begin her own business, she spent a year refurbishing the Mikoshi’s Rest into a place of opulence and delight.

It started as giving Courtesans independent or rather without backing a Home but eventually grew to be a place that not only housed them. But began operating as a place of business for them. Preferring a woman’s touch to their business as opposed to a masculine one.

After the Courtesans of her house helped the owner of the would be Mikoshi’s Rest through labor and pregnancy. Following her recovery she officially coined the name and began operating the house as a boarding house, bordello and brothel. Officially in business by 1551. Just before the subjugation of Doma.

Early Years

As Doma fell, refugees and displaced people began to flood in during a steady stream for years. As such, those misfortune or down on their luck found employ in this place. Even those with dubious background wanting a second chance working as security, maids, bookkeepers, engineers and in some cases Courtesans themselves.

The brothel itself was incredibly successful and the former owner handed over portions of her profits to those effected and displaced by the Garlean invasion.

The Peak

The Mikoshi’s Rest became a name that was known among many. Infidelious men and women alike. As well as their partners as the last thing that they wanted to hear about their partner’s visiting. It helped spur on development of the associated ward and Northern Coast of Shirogane. Often thought to be the backwater of the Platinum shores. Making way for the dock and community to be built up.

Much of that money was granted back as tax breaks for the owner through the Hingashi Government and they continued to operate with Hingashi’s Blessing.

In the Shadows of the Peak

Several cycles after the Mikoshi’s Rest opening the estate began to gather the attention of criminal elements. Few organizations began to use the Mikoshi’s Rest as a grounds to have as a neutral meeting place. Often being a place to broker peace or potentially conduct mutually beneficial business between two parties. With having a history of the Mikoshi’s Rest always disarming it’s clientele. There were rarely if ever fights and never bloodshed.

This added to the business as alcohol, libation, food, and discreet company helped bolster profits further.

As the Doman subjugation reached its seventh cycle. One of the criminal elements had recruited someone from the owner’s old town as hired muscle. In a meeting with this criminal element, this hired muscle asked to speak with the owner privately. It was then that the Doman refugee crisis was put on full display. This person explained to the owner that their operations led to several people actually being able to flee consistently and not get recaptured and brought back to Doma under Imperial control.

It was after this meeting she began to actively assist him and play a direct role in Domans and other foreign people trapped in Doma, the ability to house them originally created little to no fuss among courtesans and wasn’t a drain on financials. Yet.

A Bleeding Heart Will Run Things Dry 

As this business arrangement expanded, it began to take more and more resources from the brothel itself. Courtesans often found their rooms being temporarily requisitioned and in some cases, new rooms being opened for the sole purpose of providing medical aid to Doman Refugees.

The Owner’s partner meanwhile was pocketing all the money, while she was doing this out of the goodness of her heart.

Business began to decline, as did the state of the Estate. As people who come in grow in number and are sometimes in critical condition.

The Mikoshi's Res Closes

Operating at a loss for several cycles in a row and taking on debts that cannot possibly be collected on. The Mikoshi’s Rest eventually began to sharply decline. Offering less and less services… Until eventually, it was closed upon by the greater bank of Hingashi.

Evicting all residences and letting the estate sit in disrepair for some years…
